Herbs & Tinctures
Herb is a plant whose leaves etc. are used for food, medicine, spiritual use and whose stem dies every year. Herbs are seasonal plants with soft stems, which grow up in a particular season, dies after one or more season or an year.
Almost all herbs have healing powers as the very famous phrase of Ayurveda says "Nasti Moolam Anaushdham", which means there is no herb on earth which doesn't have any healing powers. Therefore all herbs have medicinal values.
Herbal tincture can be used to preserve herbs for medicinal use. Herbal tinctures are generally comprised of alcohol and the herb to be preserved.
Herbalists generally believe that herbal tinctures made of alcohol are more effective in releasing all the medicinal components from the plant than other methods of using herbs. Active ingredients in herbs are more easily extracted by alcohol than other liquids and heat used in other methods of using herbs, such as herbal tea, can destroy active components of the plant material.
